I am the daughter of parents who were born and raised in the segregated South and moved to California in pursuit of expanded opportunity. My parents eventually settled in Richmond CA where I was raised and continue to call home. Like most parents, they wanted my siblings and I to grow up healthy, have access to a great education and to one day raise strong families of our own. The pursuit and the realization of expanded opportunity and the fulfillment of individual and community dreams is what inspires me to work at Building Blocks for Kids Richmond Collaborative (BBK).
The families we partner with, and those we provide supportive services to in Central Richmond, envision a community that supports their dreams, fortitude and ambition. While none of us have all of the answers and some of us need more support than others, I believe that with our collective wisdom, equitable public policy and access to quality and effective programs that we will yield greatness and thrive. At BBK we will continue to seek community transformation, fight against injustice and oppression and pursue social innovation that benefits all families and children especially those experiencing social inequities. If you want to connect with BBK and support our work, please don’t hesitate to reach out to me or my BBK colleagues.
